My husband and I purchased our first starter home in 2004. It was small for our family of five, but we were sick of renting and it wasn't meant to be for long. Then the bottom fell out of the market and our house lost 1/3 of its value, so we had made up our minds to just stick it out for another 10-15 years or so. Then, my husband noticed a house for sale for dirt cheap. I mean dirt. I laughed, and said no way. He brought it up every once in a while, but I brushed him off. A few weeks later, he said it had dropped in price AGAIN. A beautiful, 2 story home on a huge lot in a resort town. I told him to go ahead and schedule a walk-through. He didn't. A few MONTHS later, I drove by and noticed it was still for sale, so I called. We walked through and the inside needed help. ABSOLUTELY. But all I saw was the hardwood floors (in need of re-finishing), twice the square footage of our current home, a fenced in yard for our dog and two car garage...I HAD to have it. It was home. Funny, the realtor did mention 22 people looked at it and passed. The appraiser didn't like it either. We had to fix it up BEFORE we could get the second loan. We took a $5,000 gamble - fixing floors, replacing windows, painting graffiti (see images for a few before pictures), but it paid off. On April 15, 2011, we bought our dream home...
